Eleven years of helping communities help people

In January of 2015, Jason Rusnak and Chris Behm started a company with a simple belief: agencies administering federally funded programs deserve software built for them.

That belief is still at the center of everything we do. And this past week, it carried Neighborly Software to a milestone: graduating from our office at the Atlanta Tech Village.

For those unfamiliar, the Atlanta Tech Village is Atlanta’s premier startup hub — a community built to give early-stage companies the space, mentorship, and connections needed to grow. It’s been our home base for the past eleven years. Since its founding, hundreds of startups have launched from within its walls. Only 21 have officially graduated — companies like Calendly, SalesLoft, and Terminus among them. Now, we’re honored to be added to that list.

We’re proud of it. But more so, we’re grateful, because this company wouldn’t exist without the public servants who work tirelessly to improve their communities.

Built Alongside the Communities We Serve

We made the Inc. 5000 three times in a row, landing in the top 250 each time. We crossed 100 employees in year 10. Those are numbers we’re proud of — but if we’re honest, none of that is the point. The point is that more than 700 public and nonprofit organizations across the country have decided to trust us with their programs. That trust is what built this company. Every hire we make, every feature we ship, every capability we add exists because our neighbors need more — and we’re committed to delivering it for the betterment of their communities.

When It Mattered Most

If there’s a chapter that defines Neighborly Software, it’s 2020.

When COVID-19 hit, millions of American households faced eviction. Federal rental assistance poured in at a scale nobody was prepared to administer. Housing agencies needed to move fast, report accurately, and get funds to families who were running out of time.

During that period, Neighborly Software became the largest provider of rental assistance administration software in the country.

We don’t say that to take credit. The people who kept families housed were the caseworkers, the program administrators, and the local governments who showed up every day to do the work.

There are families in homes today because the programs we supported were able to move quickly, document accurately, and disburse funds without getting tangled up in the administrative process.

What Graduation Actually Means

The Atlanta Tech Village gave us a place to grow. Our neighbors gave us a reason to. Eleven years later, that’s still all that matters.

To every agency, program administrator, and community partner who has trusted us along the way, thank you. This milestone belongs to you as much as it does to us. Helping communities help people has always been the mission, and we’re just getting started.

Here’s to the next chapter.
